Statement On Drug Raid Involving Filipinos

The Philippine Embassy in Madrid has received news reports that 20 Filipinos were arrested for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking, in a raid conducted by Spanish Police on Tuesday, 18 March 2014.

The Philippine Embassy is currently verifying said report and is coordinating with the Spanish police authorities to establish the exact number of Filipinos involved, their identities, their immigration status and to find out their current location and condition.

Per verbal information from the Spanish police, names and details cannot be released until after the requisite Spanish judicial process has been concluded.  Once the Embassy receives more information on the matter, it will be able to determine the appropriate assistance to be given to the Filipinos.
