Phl Embassy Madrid Sponsors Week-Long Philippin Food Festival at Hotel Intercontinental Madrid

21 June 2012 – As part of its annual Mes Filipino celebrations in June and to commemorate 10th Philippines-Spain Friendship Day, the Philippine Embassy in Madrid sponsored the Philippine Food Festival at the Hotel InterContinental Madrid from 16 June to 24 June 2012.

The Philippine Food Festival proudly features chefs from the popular and iconic Filipino restaurant Via Mare and the Hotel InterContinental Manila.

The menu for the Philippine Food Festival include traditional Filipino dishes such as adobo, bistek, tinola, lechon kawali, halo-halo, pichi-pichi done and presented in innovative ways.  Of note was the tinola, which instead of the normal clear soup, was done in the consistency of a flan.

The Philippine Food Festival is done in 5 courses which includes starter, salad / soup, fish dish, meat dish, and then capped off by a traditional Filipino dessert.  The set menu for each day changes to give the guests an opportunity to sample as many of the Filipino food dishes as possible.  The last day of the Festival will be a buffet brunch.

The Embassy hopes to make the Philippine Food Festival part of its annual Mes Filipino celebrations as a way of continuously promoting Philippine cuisine in Spain.
