The Philippine Embassy in Madrid and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office gathered leaders of the Filipino community on 23 October for a briefing on the ebola virus disease (EVD). The briefing was given by Dr. Edwin Escala, a Filipino medical practitioner in Spain.
Dr. Escala explained the virus´ origins, methods of transmission and symptoms. He underscored the importance of personal hygiene in transmission prevention and gave practical tips in avoiding the virus.
Embassy officials also provided key updates on the Philippine Government´s response to the ebola threat. They reminded the community to continue arming themselves with accurate and updated information on EVD.
The briefing forms part of the Embassy´s ongoing efforts to assist members of the Filipino community in protecting themselves against the disease.
Spain registered the first case of ebola virus transmission outside the African continent in early October.
