02 November 2011 – The Philippine Embassy in Madrid (Madrid PE) kicked off the 2012 Overseas Absentee Voter (OAV) Registration for the May 13, 2013 National Elections today, 02 November 2011 at the Embassy premises. A total of ten (10) Filipinos registered to vote on the first day.
Madrid PE´s first registered voter was OFW Anabelle Labarda who has been working in the service sector in Madrid since March 2011. “Natutuwa ako at makakaboto ako kahit nandito ako sa Spain”, said Ms. Labarda.
Philippine Ambassador to Spain Carlos C. Salinas, who also registered to vote today, was pleased with the first day’s registration turnout and expressed optimism that more Filipinos would turn out to register in the coming days. “I call on every Filipino citizen in Spain to do their civic duty by registering and exercising their right to vote”, stated Ambassador Salinas.
Voter registration will continue until 31 October 2012 at Embassy or at any designated registration area.
