PE Marks Philippine and International Women’s Day with Health and Wellness Services

Philippine Ambassador Philippe Jones Lhuillier led the celebration of the Philippine National Women’s Day and International Women’s Day on 8 March 2018 at POLO in Madrid, Spain with focus on health and wellness.

Dubbed as “Pangkalusugang Serbisyo ng Embahada at POLO para kay Juana sa España,” Filipinas had their blood pressures taken by Filipina volunteer nurse, Ann Marnelli Flores. Ambassador Lhuillier deemed this year’s celebration as a means to remind Filipinos, especially the women, to be mindful of their health and not just be focused on their work most of the time. Twenty-five attendees availed of the blood pressure screening.

Part of the event’s program was the “Ambassador’s Time with the FilCom.” In his message to the attendees, Ambassador Lhuillier expressed his high regard and respect for Filipino women, working and living in Spain, who comprise 59% of the total Filipino community in Spain based on Spanish government statistics. He also shared about his recent meetings with religious leaders and local and national government officials of Spain on initiatives that could benefit the Filipino community here in Spain, including the possibility of having a church for Filipinos. He updated the group on the Philippine Center project, a project which was greatly appreciated by the Filipino community, especially the women, as they expressed their great need for a space they could freely use for their organizations and their activities.

Ambassador Lhuillier reiterated his appeal to the Filipino community for their continued support to the Philippine Embassy and active participation in its activities.  He exhorted the attendees to always be the best representation of the Filipinos and the Philippines in Spain.
