According to the situation report issued by the NDRRMC, as of 1800h, 20 December 2011, the death toll is at 957 with 1,582 injured and 49 missing. The total affected population is 338,415 persons in 259 villages, with a total of 10,345 houses damaged houses.
The Armed Forces has dispatched personnel and equipment to the affected areas, mainly in the southern cities of Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan. The Government is likewise taking measures to prevent outbreaks of cholera, dysentery, dengue and respiratory problems particularly in evacuation centers.
President Benigno Aquino visited the affected zones and declared a state of national calamity in the aftermath of the devastation and tragedy brought about by the typhoon.
