H.E. Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier praised Filipinas in Spain and Andorra for their courage, determination and dedication during the Women´s Day celebration of the Asociación Mujeres Filipina de Madrid (AMFIL) on 10 March 2019 in Madrid.
Quoting this year´s theme “We Make Change Work for Women”, the Ambassador said that “the Filipinas in Spain best exemplify how changes work for them. Most of you here faced changes when you moved from the Philippines to Spain. No change is ever easy. But the fact that you are here celebrating Women´s Day means that you have emerged victorious and breezed through the challenges that came with ever-changing demands of the times, environment, technology, laws and needs”.
While Ambassador Lhuillier lauded the “resilience and strength” of the Filipino community in Spain and Andorra, he also asked “What else can we do for you, Kababayan? Do tell us because we are listening”.
The Ambassador also emphasized the important role of women in the society and encouraged everyone to continue to be the bond in safeguarding the integrity and unity of the family. He gladly informed the audience of the intensified Gender and Development programs of the Embassy that benefit Filipinos in Spain and Andorra through talks and services that promote gender equality.
The event also featured traditional Filipino dances and a tribute to Filipino women in Madrid.
