Philippine cuisine and Spain-based Filipino restaurants were prominently featured in El País, Spain’s largest print and digital newspaper. The article, entitled “Siete platos para ponerse fino filipino (y dónde comerlos)” was written by Maria Sanahuja and published online on 8 March 2020 under the newspaper’s El Comidista column for its resident food critics.
The author sat down with Consuls Raisa Mabayo and Ralf Roldan from the Philippine Embassy in Madrid at different Filipino restaurants to talk about Filipino cuisine and culture, its influences, and the different Filipino restaurants in Spain.
The writer selected seven favorite dishes from the myriad of Filipino dishes she tried in different restaurants in Madrid, including kare-kare, bicol express, crispy pata, lumpia, palabok, sisig, and buko pandan. A list of her recommended restaurants in Spain was also included.
