LOBOC Children´s Choir Performs in Burgos and Madrid

The Philippine Embassy in Madrid reports that the Loboc Children´s Choir performed in the cities of Burgos and Madrid on 05-06 November and 08 November 2011 respectively as part of its European Tour.

On 05 November 2011, the Loboc Children´s Choir held a successful concert at the Capilla de Santa Tecla of the 11th century Burgos Cathedral (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).  The Choir, composed of 25 children ages 9 to 14, amazed the audience with their talent, skill, mastery of the material and sheer discipline.

In addition to performing at the Capilla de Santa Tecla, one of the fourteen chapels of the Cathedral, the Choir had a meet and greet session with some members of the Burgos Cathedral’s own Boys’ Choir.  Although there was an initial language barrier between the two groups, their love for music transcended this proving that music is indeed universal.

The following day, the Loboc Children´s Choir gave another well-received performance at the Iglesia de Santa Dorotea in Burgos. This concert was made poignant by the fact that the church is maintained by the Monjas Canonigas Agustinas del Convento de Santo Dorotea, the majority of whom are Filipinas from Visayas and Mindanao.

After their concert series in Burgos, the Choir proceeded to Madrid to give the final performance of their European Tour at the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Espino, home of the Filipino chaplaincy in Madrid, on 08 November 2011.

In addition to singing popular secular and non-secular songs, the Choir capped their concert with a medley of nostalgic Filipino Christmas songs that reduced some members of the audience to tears.

The Loboc Children´s Choir recently won third place at the prestigious Certamen de Tolosa for the children´s choir category.
