Philippine Ambassador to Spain Carlos C. Salinas swore in Mr. Manuel Carrion Sanchez, the newly appointed Philippine Honorary Consul for Valencia, at the Philippine Embassy in Madrid last October 1.
In his message, Ambassador Salinas encouraged the new Honorary Consul to work hand in hand with the Philippine Embassy to further broaden the areas of cooperation between the Philippines and his consular jurisdiction, particularly in the fields of trade, investment and tourism. The Ambassador also highlighted the importance of promoting the welfare and the protection of the Filipino community in Valencia.
Prior to the signing of the Agreement between Mr. Carrion and the Philippine government, Consul General and Minister Emmanuel R. Fernandez spoke about the duties and responsibilities of a Philippine Honorary Consular Officer, and the ways by which the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Valencia could more fully and effectively carry out its mandate.
The oath-taking ceremony was followed by a two-day briefing covering administrative, fiscal, political, cultural, labor and consular concerns, as well as updates on security issues.
Valencia is the capital of the Autonomous community of Valencia and is the third largest city in Spain after Madrid and Barcelona. The Port of Valencia is the 5th busiest container port in Europe and the busiest container port on the Mediterranean sea.
Mr. Carrion will officially commence his duties as the new Philippine Honorary Consul for Valencia on 21 October 2015.
