Ambassador Carlos C. Salinas Leads Wreath-Laying Ceremony In Observance Of The 153rd Anniversary Of The Birth Of Jose Rizal

 

24 June 2014 – Philippine Ambassador to Spain Carlos C. Salinas, together with the Knights of Rizal, Madrid Chapter (KRMC) Commander, Mr. Federico Sanchez Aguilar, in observance of the 153rd Anniversary of the Birth of Dr. Jose Rizal, led the traditional wreath-laying ceremony on 22 June 2014 at the Rizal Monument in Avenida Islas Filipinas in Madrid.

Present during the event were officers and staff of the Embassy and its Attached Agencies, officers and members of the KRMC, and the Filipino community.

The solemn wreath-laying ceremony included the singing of the national anthems of the Philippines and Spain, brief remarks by Ambassador Salinas and KRMC Commander Sanchez, and the reading of Rizal´s last poem, Mi Ultimo Adios.

In his speech, Ambassador Salinas pointed out that occasions such as this should be a reminder to everyone that in our individual and collective efforts we can make a difference in the world, because we can all be a hero, like Jose Rizal, in our own right.
