In his remarks, Consul Abiog reminded the audience of Dr. Rizal’s personal battle against corruption in the Philippines of the 19th century and how he espoused liberal and progressive ideas of individual rights and freedoms.  Consul Abiog mentioned that Dr. Rizal, if he were alive, would have been one with present-day Filipinos in advocating good governance and transparency in all levels of government.

Don Manuel Troitinio Pelaz a member of the KRMC and a presiding officer of the District Council Villa de Vallecas also delivered brief remarks.  Present during the event were officers and staff of the embassy and its attached agencies, officers and members of the KRMC, and the Filipino community.

The ceremony ended with a reading of the lines of “Mi Ultimo Adios.”
